Self-Esteem among Women with Facial Burns: A Perplexity in Pakistan
Abstract
Objective: This study explores the link between lower levels of self-esteem among females with facial burns
Study design: The study design was a analytical cross-sectional study.
Place and duration of study: This study was conducted at the National Burn Care Centre, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad. The study was conducted over a 6 month period in Islamabad.
Patients and Methods: The data was collected only from females who are burned from the face towards the neck area. Patients included were Young adults females age (18-35) and adult females age (36-60) with facial burns were tested in the current study.
Results: The Urdu translated version of Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale was used to measure low self-esteem among women with facial burns. Analysis was done at two levels. To establish psychometric properties of scale, Alpha coefficient reliability was computed. Chi square was conducted to find out correlation among low self-esteem with age and marital status using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26.
Conclusion: The findings also gave evidence that low self-esteem levels were found to affect more unmarried women as compared to married women with facial burns and there was a low count of adult women with low self-esteem and a high count of young adult women with facial burns.
