Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Cervical Screening among Females of the Local Community

Abstract

Objective: To determine the frequency of knowledge, attitude and practice of cervical
screening among females of the local community attending Gynecology OPD.
Method: This cross-sectional study was carried out at Department of Obstetrics &
Gynecology, Shifa International hospital, Islamabad, from July 2021 to January 2022.
Females of age 20-60 years, any parity presenting the history of any complaint
including abnormal uterine bleeding, post-coital bleeding, infertility, lower abdominal
pain in Gyane OPD. Then females undergo a face-to-face discussion with the
researcher. Their feedback against each question was recorded and knowledge, attitude
and practice were noted. All this information was recorded through pre-designed
proforma.
Results: Patients' mean age was 34.67+10.01 years ranged from 20 to 60 years. Out
of all, 24(13%) cases had good knowledge, positive attitude in 167(90.3%) and
45(24.3%) cases were practicing it.
Conclusion: Cervical cancer is a manageable condition. Educating healthcare
personnel in addition to general public about cervical cancer screening and prevention
can help prevent its spread in our country.
